What's on and When at Broadway URC

Church services.

Services are held at 10.30 a.m. every Sunday. The first Sunday of the month includes the Sacrament of Holy Communion to which all are invited. You do not have to be a member of this church, anyone can attend of whatever denomination, or none. The other services can vary from the traditional hymns and readings to the young style of the Pilots group. We have special services on particular topics, e.g. The work of the Leprosy Mission, the Israel and Palestinian situation, One World Week, Christian Aid, as well as the usual Festival services. The services are taken by Ministers, Lay Preachers, members of our own church and visiting speakers. So, you will see we have a wide variety of services, that not only worship God, but inform us of matters that as Christians we should be aware of and have concern for. Children are welcome and can be taken to the hall for their own stories by Criminal Records Bureau approved members if necessary, but we do not have a regular children's part of the service at the moment. The church secretary is Mrs. Christine Waller who can be contacted on 01386 833494

Why not try it? Churches together in Broadway host a games afternoon at the URC hall once a month on the first Tuesday afternoon from 2pm—4pm. There is the usual chat and games of cards, scrabble, snakes and ladders and jigsaws, and a cup of tea or coffee. Why not come and try it? Transport is available free and we have a wheelchair to help with access. More information from Michael Payne on (01386) 854759 or Bill Nelson on (01386) 852618.

Threads.

A new activity has been started called 'Threads'. As the name suggests it is for people to get together to knit, crochet, or sew, have a cup of tea or coffee and have a chat about things Christian and generally put the world to rights. It is held in the Jubilee Room on Wednesdays 15th January and 15th February 2014 from 2 to 4 p.m. For more information contact Christine Waller on 10386 833494.

Traidcraft

Information for your diaries!  A Traidcraft stall will be available monthly from January 2014. It has been agreed that the stall will be open on the 3rd Sunday in the month between the service and the Church meeting. We are getting our supplies from a local source in Bishops Cleeve on a sale or return basis and any profit will be given by them either back to Traidcraft or to other  charities. For the stall on January 19th we will have a range of goods available. Once we have seen how these sell we will adjust the order accordingly. Therefore, if there are particular goods that you would like us to stock, please let us know. We look forward to seeing you with your  purses or wallets on January 19th. Next stall is on Sunday 17th February.

THE GOOD LUNCH CLUB  These ladies have supported our youth groups regularly - Cub Scouts, Brownies, Guides and Pilots - by making donations to them at frequent intervals. Now they are asking for our support - and it is a very pleasurable support they ask. Once every 8 weeks they serve a home cooked meal to their guests in the Methodist Church Hall. Edna, Stanley and I have been going regularly for years, but now they need more guests.  Once there were so many it was necessary to be given an invitation, but now there are fewer regulars and YOU could be included if you telephone Teresa on  01386 853941
The cost is £6 with a raffle ticket costing £1.
This is open to men and women and no one will be left to feel alone. It would be lovely to see some of you there to support these people who work for the aid of local charities.     Shirley.
